About
MashUp! is a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in the Nashville Metro area, committed to a holistic, person-centered approach to health and well-being. Our programs are designed to meet people where they are—using creative, interactive tools to address anxiety, stress, depression, and habits that impact daily life.
At the heart of our work is community. We recognize that for Black folx, community is more than a support system—it’s a lifeline. That’s why we center those who often face compounded barriers to care, dignity, and belonging.

Our Story
Founded on February 20, 2017, MashUp! began as a convening space—a place where local community groups and AIDS-service organizations could strategize, support one another, and build bridges to fill the service gaps for Black LGBTQ+ communities. That spirit of collaboration is where our name comes from: a mash-up of purpose, people, and power.
What started as a coalition has grown into a vital hub for community care and resilience. MashUp! connects people to the mental health support and health education they need—while building collective power through events, workshops, and advocacy initiatives.
We are inclusive by design and radically rooted in love. Whether you're seeking care, collaboration, or just a place to be seen and heard, you’re welcome here.
MashUp! continues to push boundaries, challenge inequity, and reimagine what accessible, affirming health care looks like, by and for Black LGBTQ+ with no one left behind.
Our Mission
To confront health inequities and social injustice head-on, improving the lives and well-being of Black LGBTQ+ through education, advocacy, and community-driven solutions.

Why It Matters
Systemic inequality doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Many in our community face what’s known as double jeopardy: compounded discrimination based on both race and sexual or gender identity.
Racial Discrimination:
Racism impacts more than attitudes—it shapes access to housing, education, and economic opportunity. These social determinants create real, measurable gaps in health outcomes and access to care.
LGBTQ+ Discrimination:
Black Queer and Trans folks, face social exclusion that too often results in homelessness, food insecurity, and despair. Without inclusive, affirming systems of care, many are left behind.
