Mindful MashUp Transformation Program
A creative wellness experience for Black LGBTQ+ communities designed to help individuals address addictive and impulsive behaviors, cultivate emotional resilience, and build affirming community through expressive healing practices.
Program Overview
Since its inception, MMTP has served as MashUp!’s signature mental wellness experience—offering safe, affirming spaces where participants can unpack trauma, connect with others, and engage in personal growth.
Rooted in the belief that creativity is a form of therapy, the updated MMTP integrates expressive arts, peer support, and mental health-informed facilitation to support participants in exploring the roots of their behaviors and reclaiming their full selves.

Group Guiding Principles:
-
Neutralize Shame: Frame addiction as a pattern of behavior, not a character flaw. Use phrases like "learned coping strategies" or "patterns" instead of loaded terms like "addict."
-
Universal Experience: Emphasize that everyone has habits they'd like to change; addictive/impulsive behaviors exist on a spectrum.
-
Interactive & Reflective: The goal is to prompt personal insight, not to force sharing. Use open-ended questions.
Healing Circle Recommended Resources
Daily Tools to help heal and grow awareness around impulsive behaviors:
-
Book: “The Body Keeps the Score” - by Bessel Van Der Kolk
-
Book: “The Velvet Rage” - Dr. Alan Downs

Why MMTP Matters
Too often, Black LGBTQ+ individuals are excluded from traditional models of mental health care. MMTP offers a model rooted in joy, community, and creative healing—recognizing that behavior change begins when people feel seen, safe, and supported. Whether through expressive workshops, peer circles, or deep conversation, MMTP invites participants to move from surviving to thriving.
