We are honored to share that MashUp! was recently featured by NewsChannel 5 Nashville coverage of Giving Out Loud Brunch, highlighting our ongoing work to support Black LGBTQ+ communities across Middle Tennessee.
The story spotlighted our annual Giving Out Loud Brunch, the culminating event of MashUp Weekend, which brought the community together for celebration, connection, and collective investment in health equity.
The weekend included multiple outreach events designed to connect individuals with health & wellness resources and support in affirming spaces.
Centering Care, Access, and Community
NewsChannel 5 recognized MashUp’s mission, which began nearly a decade ago with a focus on linking Black LGBTQ+ individuals to services that improve quality of life. Those services range from mental health support to HIV/AIDS resources and substance use services, meeting people where they are and often at no cost to those receiving care.
Our goal for this year’s fundraiser was to raise $100,000 to sustain and expand these programs so they remain accessible to the community that depends on them.
Why This Work Matters Right Now
The coverage also acknowledged the broader social climate and the importance of affirming spaces where Black LGBTQ+ people can gather, feel supported, and access resources without stigma or barriers. Events like Giving Out Loud are designed not only to celebrate culture and joy, but to ensure that MashUp’s work continues well beyond a single weekend.
A Weekend Rooted in Joy and Sustainability
The brunch featured performances, community recognition, and opportunities to support local artists through donated artwork, reinforcing MashUp’s commitment to culture as a vehicle for healing and visibility. Funds raised directly sustain MashUp’s year-round programming and outreach efforts.
Moving Forward, Together
Being recognized by local media is more than a moment of visibility. It reflects the growing awareness of the health disparities, systemic barriers, and cultural needs that MashUp continues to address through community-driven solutions.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended, supported, donated, and continues to believe in this work. Your investment ensures that Black LGBTQ+ people in Nashville have access to affirming resources, culturally competent care, and spaces where joy is not an exception, but the standard.
